Diocese of The Highveld

 

The diocese of The Highveld covers the East Rand region of Gauteng Province (a densely populated urban area) and the Eastern Highveld region of Mpumalanga province (a rural area) – spanning a distance of about 400km from west to east. Within the geographical boundaries of the diocese live an estimated 3 million people. HIV and AIDS, unemployment – in some of the rural communities of the diocese, more than 80% of the people are unemployed – poverty, education & health care are major issues. It is estimated that in some of the rural areas, the percentage of those living with HIV and AIDS is over 60%.
