Diocese of Swaziland

The Diocese of Swaziland falls within the Kingdom of Swaziland – the smallest country in the Southern hemisphere, and with one of the highest HIV incidence rates world wide. Home to 1.1 million people, levels of poverty have reached extreme proportions in Swaziland. This directly affects the functioning of the church.

With unemployment levels estimated at between 65 and 70%, the majority of the church’s members are so poor and struggling to support themselves and their (extended) families, that they have almost nothing to give the church. There are 20 parishes in the Diocese but, in many cases, there are a large number of congregations dispersed over large areas.
