Diocese of Johannesburg

The Diocese of Johannesburg is, in comparison to most, a geographically minute Diocese. Johannesburg covers the northern part of the national Province of Gauteng which, though covering only 1.4% of South Africa’s land, is home to over 8 million people. Part of this diocese is a highly urbanised area where transport, communication & healthcare infrastructure is highly developed, while the other is peri urban with mining and farming areas charactreised by lots of informal settlements, hostels from migrant workers. There are 75 parishes in the Diocese of Johannesburg, with an estimated membership of 30 000 Christians.
