Diocese of Grahamstown

 

The Diocese of Grahamstown falls within the National Province of the Eastern Cape – a largely rural province with landscape ranging from rolling hills & towering mountains to the extensive, vast open spaces of sheep farms in the interior Karoo. 83% of the population is Xhosa speaking with others speaking Afrikaans (9.6%) or English (3.7%). 20% of people above the age of 20 have not received any kind of schooling. The parliament of the Eastern Cape has recently set the HIV prevalence at 23%.
